TEC Alumni Series: Eric Berthene Shares His Vision

Technology Entrepreneur Center (TEC) and University of Illinois alum Eric Berthene is a travel junkie with a social entrepreneur’s spirit.

After studying abroad in Poland and traveling to the Middle East for a graduation trip, he entered the working world as a service delivery analyst at a consulting and software company called MatterSight.

Student Startups Compete for Funding and Prizes: Everyone Wins!

Urbana, Ill—March 31, 2012

The 12th annual Cozad New Venture Competition  proved to be a fierce battle this weekend, as 20 student teams presented their ventures to an esteemed judging panel.

Serionix wins Cozad Competition: News Gazette

CHAMPAIGN — Serionix took the top monetary prize at the Cozad New Venture Competition this past weekend.

The company — which has come up with filter materials to remove perchlorate from drinking water — took first place in the Most Fundable Venture category, earning the firm $15,000.

Jim Langer, the firm's president, said he hopes to use the winnings for intellectual property development, such as filing patent applications, or business development, such as meeting with customers on the West Coast.

TEC Alumni Series: The David Albrecht Adventure

Since graduation, Illinois alumnus David Albrecht has dabbled in consulting, working for Microsoft, and several startups. Currently Albrecht is devoting his electrical and computer engineering skills  to Wishery.

Wishery “adds customer relationship tools to Gmail (Google Apps) to help your team become much more efficient and effective at delivering buzz-worthy sales, service and support via email,” according to its website.

TEC Alumni Series: Checking in with Andy Phillip

URBANA, Ill. (Mar. 13, 2012)--Illinois alumni Andy Phillip has been using his electrical engineering skills to create a startup that manufactures high-precision parts.

Microlution makes industrial cutting equipment, specializing in technology that requires small parts.

As co-founder and president, Phillip handles product, technology and market development, as well as sales.

AMD Invests in Novel Video Communications Startup Nuvixa (Champaign company)

Advanced Micro Devices has made an investment in video communications startup Nuvixa.

Sunnyvale Calif.-based AMD’s AMD Ventures division is investing in Nuvixa so that the startup can continue work on its StagePresence video presentation tool, which extracts a human presenter from any background and embeds him or her in a digital desktop or slide presentation. It’s as if the presenter has been pasted into a presentation when viewed via video.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Celebrated in the C-U

Students and faculty of the University and members of the Champaign-Urbana community came together Thursday night to celebrate and award creative ideas and implementation.

The seventh annual Innovation Celebration (IC) was held at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.
