Course Description

Introduction to Medical Device Product Development is a two-credit course providing a foundational overview of the principles for developing medical devices, clinical diagnostic systems, medical decision-making tools. We’ll use the subject of device innovation through clinical development to product approval. Best practices in the industry, in regulatory guidance for developing products in the 21st century, and in pertinent case studies as examples will be presented as content for the course. At the end of the course, students are expected to be conversant in current key elements of medical device product development and apply those elements to unique entrepreneurial opportunities. Students will experience elements of medical device development of novel device-related diagnosis and treatment of major diseases through the use of real world, state-of-the-art products that have been recently developed.
